Knowing your menstrual cycle like clockwork is one of the most empowering and liberating things you can do for yourself - your fertility, gynecological health, pelvic health, reproductive health - ALL.OF.IT.
⠀⠀⠀
Laws or no laws, we already have the tools at our disposal to learn when we are fertile versus when we are not, to understand the fluctuations of that fertile window (because it will vary month to month for many of us), how to know exactly when we are ovulating, and how to know when our next period is coming.
⠀⠀⠀
While politician's who know ZERO about healthcare continue to pass inhumane laws that are designed to control women's bodies - make no mistake about it - please know that myself and many other extraordinary women (tagged as many as I could) continue to teach women the miraculous facts about their bodies, which have been kept secret for far too long.
⠀⠀⠀
There are blogs and podcasts, people you can work with one-on-one and in groups, there are courses you can take and many books you can read, along with devices you can use. It's all there for the taking. It's really up to you to decide how you are going to handle the new reality we're living in. With the gift of this knowledge, you don't have to be at the mercy of these draconian laws.

Caveat: I know there are girls and women who are inordinately affected by these laws - poor women, women of color, immigrants, girls and women who are raped or victims of incest - but this is all the more reason to be doubling down on your efforts to educate girls and women from all communities. I'll be sharing a lot more in the coming weeks on all that.

I hear this often in practice even with Sexy Lady Balls, my hormone membership program which is only $57/mo. Here’s my take:
.
I get there will always be exceptions: single moms hustling to take care of their kiddos, mamas on food stamps, etc. But for most women I see, it’s just not a priority or their value. Want to know what your values are? Look at your bank account.
.
And here’s a tip I always pass on: open up a separate bank account and every time u get paid, allocate a certain % to that account. Even if it’s 2% it’s still SOMETHING and it’s more than if you put nothing. Plus it compounds.
.
Ladies we need to value our health. When we do we can show up in the world as healthier and happier beings.
.
And in a society where our medical system just isn’t doing the right testing nor are they equipped to deal with chronic illness, we NEED to be an advocate in our own health.
.
Do yourself a favour: take charge not of others but of YOURSELF. Stop complaining about how much you give (because YOU CHOOSE TO DO SO) and take back that fucking power already.

Allow me to introduce myself, I’m Melissa Ramos (pronounced RAM-os not RAY-mos). I’m a Nutritionist with a background in Chinese Medicine. I’m a huge nerd, book obsessed, passionate about helping women with their hormone and poop issues. Fun fact: I’m also a professional tarot reader and bonafide weirdo🤪

My approach isn’t for everyone but I try to make this crazy, and often times, overwhelming journey one where u can learn and laugh all at the same time.🤣

Here you’ll get a dose of compassionate mixed with tough love - b’cus we all have our stories to get passed and my job isn’t to coax people, it’s to facilitate their healing.️

Sexy Food Therapy originally started as just a “silly little blog” I wrote that countless people told me to give up on. When I doubled down on it, I had to build it from a deficit of $20k while bartending and waiting tables. Through those years I almost died when a cyst ruptured and tore off a piece of my ovary and I almost bled to death. I tell small children that my scar is b’cus I battled a dragon. I sometimes believe I did.
.
Since then the biz has grown like wildfire. I have a kickass team that includes an online clinic that we offer to program members as an upgrade where they can receive testing + a session w/ 1 of my practitioners.
.
Personally I’m a quirky, no-BS mama. I value my close gal pals (u know who u are), my little cockapoo Bodhi who has an inflated ego, my folks and of course my husband Arik (aka @ketocash) who is MY PERSON ️
.
I plan to move to interior BC but that’s after our RV adventure. We’ll spend the summers in the southwestern US states during the Canadian winters and then head back to the Pacific North West to play in the mountains in the summer.
.
Lastly, I believe women are pure magic. I just don’t feel most women actually realize their power b’cus they give it away on a daily with no boundaries and then fall into victim or martyrdom. For those that want to wake the hell up so they can take responsibility for themselves and instead, thrive, I’m ur gal.

Oh and I hate cucumbers 🥒and believe they’re the Devil’s vegetable.

In a final post about detoxification, let's talk heat and sweat. Not only are saunas a great way to help remove heavy metals (Sears, (2012), Arsenic, Cadmium, Lead, and Mercury in Sweat: A Systematic Review), saunas can increase longevity. 
Sauna is a heat stressor, a form of hormesis that resets the body, including the DNA. Hormesis is a beneficial biological response in the body (improved health, stress tolerance, growth or longevity) to something triggering it. That trigger is often exposure to low doses of an agent that is toxic or lethal at high doses.
.

When you sit in a sauna, you activate the longevity gene called FOXO3, which turns on the genes for stress resilience, antioxidant production, protein maintenance, DNA repair (prevents mutations), and tumor killing. .

In addition to turning on other important genes, the longevity gene FOXO3 also makes heat shock proteins (HSPs). Heat shock proteins ensure that the proteins in your body maintain their proper 3-D structure when under stress. Proteins should be properly folded, like a fitted sheet, not bunched up and wrinkled. Poorly folded proteins clump together and cause damage (such as in atherosclerosis, congestive heart failure, and neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s), leading to shorter lives. In a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, researchers found that men who enjoyed a sauna four to seven times per year had a 40 percent drop in mortality of all causes! .

Sit in a sauna four to seven days of the week for twenty to sixty minutes. Go to your local gym or consider investing in a home sauna. Dry saunas have the most evidence that they help you age well, but infrared saunas are not far behind. Recs: @sunlightensaunas or @clearlightinfrared

️One of the things i love doing is getting a bit of argan oil in my hands and adding a couple of drops of essential oils into my palm and adding it to my hair's tips. I'll do this after a shower because it argan oil is so moisturizing! I use essential oils a lot for my hair and I do switch them up. Lately this has been my combo:
.
3 drops of wild orange essential oil - promotes happiness
2 drops vetiver essential oil - has SUCH a calming effect .
Now you can do this straight out of the shower or even after you've styled it and you want to flatten out the frizzies - your choice.
.
These are my picks lately because I have such massive, super exciting yet shit-my-fucking-pants things going on that I need all the calm-Melissa-the-fuck-down type oils I can get! 🤣

These are my Energizing Fat Bombs and they are my go-to for energy and cravings:

4 tbsp coconut oil
2 tbsp organic ghee
2 tbsp cacao powder
1 tbsp maca powder
1 cup crunch almond butter or tahini (if ur sensitive to almonds)
A couple pinches Himalayan sea salt
Stevia or honey to taste
.

Mix altogether and pour into a lined muffin tin container and freeze. .
.
