Anne, Princess Royal married Timothy Laurence.
.
.
Anne, Princess Royal married Timothy Laurence, then a commander in the Royal Navy, at Crathie Kirk, near Balmoral Castle, on 12 December 1992.
.
The couple chose to marry in Scotland as the Church of England did not routinely allow divorced persons whose former spouses are still living to remarry in its churches, while the Church of Scotland did under certain circumstances.
.
In participating in this ceremony, Anne became the first Royal divorcée to remarry since Victoria, Grand Duchess of Hesse & by Rhine, did so in 1905.
.
Like Phillips* before him, Laurence received no peerage, & the couple leased a flat in Dolphin Square, London.
.
They later gave up this city home and now reside between an apartment at St James's Palace & Gatcombe Park. Anne has no children by Laurence.
.
The current title of Laurence is ; Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence.
.
.
* The Queen had offered Phillips an earldom on his wedding day, as was customary for untitled men marrying into the Royal Family. However, Phillips did not accept the offer. .

.
  Anne of Denmark was born
.
.
Anne of Denmark was Queen consort of Scotland, England, & Ireland as the wife of James VI & I.
.
◼ Anne was born on 12 December 1574 at the castle of Skanderborg on the Jutland Peninsula in the Kingdom of Denmark.
.
◼ Anne was the second daughter of King Frederick II of Denmark, Anne married James in 1589 at age 14 & bore him three children who survived infancy, including the future Charles I.
.
◼ Anne appears to have loved James at first, but the couple gradually drifted & eventually lived apart, though mutual respect & a degree of affection survived.
.
◼ In England, Anne shifted her energies from factional politics to patronage of the arts & constructed her own magnificent court, hosting one of the richest cultural salons in Europe.
.
◼ After 1612, she suffered sustained bouts of ill health & gradually withdrew from the centre of court life. Though she was reported to have been a Protestant at the time of her death on 2 March 1619, evidence suggests that she may have converted to Catholicism sometime in her life.
.
◼ Historians have traditionally dismissed Anne as a lightweight queen, frivolous & self-indulgent. .
However, recent reappraisals acknowledge Anne's assertive independence &, in particular, her dynamic significance as a patron of the arts during the Jacobean age.

Queen Victoria (1819-1901)
.
By HENRY CHARLES HEATH, 1886 .
.
◼ Queen Victoria is shown in Heath's miniature dressed in black with the ribbon of the Order of the Garter, a diamond necklace and diamond and pearl drop earrings, and wearing an emerald brooch, tiara and white lace veil.
.
◼ The miniature is mounted in a diamond-set green and red enamelled gold pendant with flowerhead border, the reverse engraved with the inscription: To Victoria of Wales / from her loving / Grandmama and Godmother / Victoria R.I. / 22nd April 1886.
.
◼ The miniature is a small but good-quality copy by Heath, after a photograph by W. & D. Downey of c.1880. A similar, but slightly later, presentation portrait miniature, by Henry Charles Heath, dated 1890, the year of his appointment as Miniature Painter to Queen Victoria, was given by the Queen to the explorer Sir Henry Stanley that year; another was set into a diamond mount made by Garrards and presented to the Shah of Persia in 1889 (Times, Court Circular, 30 July 1889).
.
◼ Ernest Dudley Heath, son of the artist, maintained that his father 'painted in all between thirty and forty portraits of Her Majesty and nearly as many of the late Prince Consort' (Pearson's Magazine, n.d., p. 689). This is confirmed by Queen Victoria's accounts, which list prolific quantities of, mostly photographic, miniatures being supplied by Heath throughout the 1860s and then again at the end of the 1880s.
.
◼ During the early years covered by the Queen's private accounts, these are listed under the heading 'Presents', and the absence of all but two of Heath's miniatures of the Queen in the Royal Collection testifies to the fact that they were purchased for distribution as gifts.
.
Commissioned by Queen Victoria, by whom it was given to Princess Victoria of Wales, 22 April 1886; probably returned to the Royal Collection after the death of Princess Victoria of Wales in 1935

Henry Fitzroy, Duke of Richmond and Somerset
.
By LUCAS HORENBOUT c.1533-4
.
.
◼ Henry Fitzroy, Duke of Richmond and Somerset (1519-36), was the illegitimate son of Henry VIII by Elizabeth Blount, a lady-in-waiting to Katharine of Aragon.
.
◼ The child was officially acknowledged by the King after the early deaths of the three sons born to the Queen.
.
◼ Following his divorce from Katharine of Aragon & his subsequent marriage to Anne Boleyn, Henry VIII's attachment to Henry Fitzroy assumed a greater significance, particularly when his second wife also failed to produce a male heir.
.
◼ Appointed Knight of the Garter in 1525 & made Duke of Richmond and Somerset in the same year, Henry Fitzroy was given several important positions, including that of Lord Lieutenant of Ireland.
.
◼ His education was entrusted to the distinguished classical scholar Richard Croke, who had taught Greek to Henry VIII, & was extended by attendance at the court of Francis I in France for eleven months in 1532.
.
◼ It appears that Henry VIII contemplated making Henry Fitzroy his heir, but whatever the King's intentions may have been, the plan was spoilt by Henry Fitzroy's premature death of tuberculosis at the age of 17.
.
◼ It is possible that this miniature was painted at the time of Fitzroy's marriage in 1534 to Mary Howard, daughter of the third Duke of Norfolk, Treasurer of the Household & Earl Marshal.
.
◼ The miniature is a typical work by Horenbout, whose style is detectable in the modelling of the features, the prominent shadows under the eyes & mouth, & the form of the inscription seen against a blue background. The sitter is vividly characterised in what is in essence an informal portrait, one of the first in British art, & a significant prototype for what was to prove the keynote of intimacy in the art form of the portrait miniature over successive centuries. The casual clothes, probably a nightcap & chemise, may be associated with his physical frailty.
