One of the things I got hooked on during pregnancy with my daughter was ginger. I find it incredibly soothing to my stomach. Sometimes after a crazy intense workout, I know my body needs some refueling, but nothing sounds good to eat. I LOVE this @pacificfoods Bone Broth with ginger as it hydrates me AND gives me some protein, and that little kick of ginger tastes delicious and soothes my tummy. Although I think broth is delicious warm, I like this kind refrigerated! [ad]

I’ve been craving some fancy dairy-free nachos and this plate did NOT disappoint. The @CholulaHotSauce cashew sour cream took it to the next level They were so good I might have made them twice already This is one of those meals that will impress your friends and make you seem like a fancy master chef ‍️but is actually super simple and can be whipped up in just under an hour.
Although this recipe as written is vegan, swap out the beans and corn for ground turkey taco meat and you are good to go for a Paleo or Whole30 approved meal. [ad]

MAKE THIS PLATE:

CHOLULA CASHEW SOUR CREAM:
(Adapted from @ohsheglows cashew sour cream)
-3/4 cup water
-1 1/2 cups cashews
-2 Tablespoons lemon juice
-2 tsp apple cider vinegar
-pinch of salt
-5-6 Tablespoons Cholula Hot Sauce (depending on how much flavor you want)

DIRECTIONS:
1. Soak cashews in boiling water, for at least an hour. Blend all ingredients together in a high-speed blender until the consistency is smooth.
2. Sweet potato fries (I think they are easier to pick up than circular shapes): Preheat oven to 425, wash sweet potatoes, cut into wedges/fries, brush with avocado oil and use s&p. Cook for 40-60 minutes, stirring halfway through.
3. Top fries with: baby tomatoes, avocados, black beans, black olives, fresh corn, jalapenos, a squeeze of fresh lime, cilantro, and the Cholula sour cream

1 (paleo-left): @aidellssausage apple chicken sausage cooked in @fronterafoods taco sauce 
2 (vegetarian-right) simple truth black beans @mysmithsgrocery cooked in the taco sauce
•spiralized cucumbers •avocados •lettuce •sour cream (on #2)

Also if you’re like WTF are cucumbers doing on a taco, I can understand your skepticism. I tried them on veggie nachos once, hesitantly, but was SOLD afterwards.

-Chicken thighs, sauteed in @madeincookware pan, with avocado oil, s&p
-sweet potato fries (or weird squares haha I'm not great at the fry shape apparently) made with @chosenfoods avo oil
-spinach (just drizzled avo oil & ACV for dressing)
-crazy mesmorizing beets (I don't know their scientific name)

As an avid coffee lover, matcha was one of those things for a long time I swore I didn't really need but it turns out I DO. Matcha results in a much calmer and sustained form of energy and is a lot easier on the stomach (and more hormone friendly than coffee for most women). The ritual of making a matcha latte and sipping it throughout my morning is so grounding. I didn't learn this until after I was already hooked on matcha, but it's actually considered an adaptogen - something that helps our body process stress better. #staygrounded
 MATCHA LATTE RECIPE:
1/2-3/4 cup boiling water or plantbased milk (homemade coconut milk is AMAZING)
1 T coconut oil
1 scoop collagen .5- 1.5 tsp matcha - depending on how strong you prefer the taste and how much caffeine you want. Ceremonial grade matcha will have a better taste in a latte, but I’ve also used mixing grade as well

I have trust issues with people who can keep sweet potato fries around for longer than 5 minutes 🤷‍️ they are just TOO good. Although this dinner wasn’t the prettiest, it was soooo tasty. 
Make this plate:
-sweet potato fries (cut sweet potato into wedges or fries, spray with @chosenfoods avocado or coconut oil, s&p, for 30-45 minutes at 425) -almond flour breaded cod fillet (dip cod fillets in eggs, then dip in almond flour mixture with a little bit of garlic powder and s&p)
-kale pesto (I made the recipe I posted a while back with some major subs since I was out of a few things but it was still decent )
-@lovebeets original cooked beet -1/2 avocado

As many people do their shopping on the weekends, Friday is a great time to clean out any leftover random bits of food that need to get used up. Even if it's not overly pretty or looks a little funky.

-chopped red peppers and strawberries
-2 fried eggs from Grandpa's farm
-sauteed arugula and chicken sausage
-last slice of banana bread from the freezer
-a perfect 1/2 avocado  GO HAVE YOURSELF AN AMAZING FRIDAY. And try a fridge meal. That I'm realizing after typing all of this and looking at it again sort of just looks like brunch. The brunch of a person who can't decide what they want to eat and just decides to eat a little bit of everything. 🤷‍️

TRY YOUR VEGGIES NAKED
I tried an experiment last night (mostly out of lack and laziness). I usually enjoy my veggies with either a homemade dressing or something from @tessemaes or @primalkitchenfoods, or an herb cashew dip. You know, just adds a little more pizazz. 
But it was amazing how much more the tang of the fish, the sweetness of the asparagus and carrots, the bite of the arugula, and the charred bitterness of the broccoli came through without anything extra. 
We spend a lot of our lives (especially childhood) trying to avoid the actual taste of veggies, it's sometimes a good experience to eat them in their bare naked form (admittedly mine did have @chosenfoods avocado oil and a little s&p), especially when fresh. The flavors are insane!
But, I do love me some herb cashew dip, so I anticipate it's return to my fridge any day now. 
Make this plate:
-sautee ground salmon in @chosenfoods avocado oil, s&p, a little bit of garlic powder
-roast asparagus, carrots, and broccoli with avocado oil, s&p at 425. The asparagus and carrots will be done sooner than the carrots. -throw in a little garden fresh arugula, and an avocado (I always forget to take a pic with my avocado!) Enjoy!

Sometimes I get a little bored with water (what, I said it) and like booch or other fun healthier options than soda - like @upmountainswitchel. I love that the tang comes from ACV and the sweetness from maple syrup. Ingredients FTW. [ad]

Make this plate:
-turkey meatloaf (will post recipe soon)
-roasted farmers market asparagus (roasted in 425 oven for 15-20 min with avocado oil and salt)
-spinach & avo

This pesto was just TOO good and so so easy. 
Assemble the plate:
-@eatbanza chickpea pasta (this is why the meal is filling)
-sweet potato fries (slice/ dice, drizzle with avocado oil and s&p, cook at 425)
-sliced avocado -wish I would have added: sauteed mushrooms, but I was all out. They would have been delish with this!

Make the pesto (recipe found and adapted from Pinterest)
1-2 large handfuls chopped kale
1 handful fresh basil
1 lemon, juiced and zested
s&p
1/4-1/2 cup olive or @chosenfoods oil (see what the consistency is like)
1/4 cup walnuts

Pesto is commonly made with garlic, but if your taste buds or tummy are sensitive to raw garlic, I think it tastes just as good without it. If you do add it, 1/2-a whole clove would be just the right amount. 
Add all this to a food processor or your handy dandy high speed blender

I shared this omelet yesterday in my @lovebeets takeover - don't forget to enter the giveaway!
This morning I woke up to to a message and picture (of an omelet that looked just like mine!) that's in my stories, and it really just made my day. 
Quick and healthy meals are game changers and I want every to feel like they have the tools and knowledge to make them!

Here's how to make the omelet:
-heat a pan to medium heat -while the pan is heating, crack 2 eggs into a bowl, add a tiny amount of water (like 1-2 tsp), and whisk eggs together
-add grassfed butter, ghee, or avocado oil to pan (Don't be scared of healthy fats!)
-add whisked eggs, swirl pan to evenly coat egg mixture
-turn pan heat down a little - so the bottom doesn't burn -using a spatula or pancake turner, keep an eye on the bottom to make sure it doesn't get too brown
-when both sides are cooked, gently slide the omelet onto an adjacent plate
-if you want cooked toppings/fillings, cook those first!
-I topped this one with: sauteed red pepper, arugula, and 1/2 an avocado

Between my grandmother passing away, and a few other things happening concurrently, I've taken a big step back from Eat Good Food & Move. Some of it has been to grieve privately, but some of it has been I haven't really been that hungry, and making pretty food just to take a picture of it seemed sort of wrong. 🤔

My entire life, stress = junk food and sadness has = no appetite. And although I've done a better job as of late fueling my body even during times of stress (with the exception of one evening that I found myself sitting at Sonic drive-thru eating tatertots ) most of my meals have been the bare minimum to keep functioning. Not really photo-worthy.
Although I'd consider myself baaaaaaack today (and trying to catch up on comments, emails, and everything else!) I want to change things a little going forward. Simple meals are what have fueled me over the past few weeks. They are what most of my dinners consist of (because I'm too worn out to do something a little fancier by the end of a long day of cooking). They are all that most of my friends and family have time for on a regular basis.
You'll start to see more Simple Meals posts on my feed in the future. Meals that contain a few veggies or fruits (ones you can actually find and buy without several grocery store treks and spending an arm and a leg), and a good balance of protein, carbs, and protein.
Meals that don't require an exorbitant amount of time, but maybe just a little prep and forethought (or maybe not ). Eating the right foods can make our lives better, and I hope I can empower all of you to do just thatThanks for all your patience and love ️

Thank you so much for all your kind words yesterday regarding my grandmother’s passing. I read each comment and really felt the love ️
This super quick breakfast/ lunch/ even dinner is a common one around here:
•omelette with eggs from grandpa’s farm (crack 2 eggs, add a teeny tiny bit of water, and whisk until mixed. Melt @kerrygoldusa butter in non-stick pan on medium heat, thoroughly coat pan with butter, and then add eggs once pan is hot. Swirl around to create an even layer, turn down heat little, when it’s cooked through, gently slide onto a plate). The secret to a good omelette is good butter!!
•spinach cooked in grass fed butter (not very appetizing looking but so good)
•handful of strawberries
•added later: gf toast. On the mornings I run (yesterday) I always crave a few extra carbs so I was still hungry after eating this and grabbed some toast.

In honor of my 300th post: REAL LIFE. This is what dinner looks like for me many nights. 1 or 2 veggies (the sauce has sweet potato), a leftover protein, and some complex carbs. 
Occasionally I bother putting together something a little fancier, or crockpotting it up, but it’s frequently just something I’ve got prepped. (And if I’m not photographing it doesn’t look this organized haha). It might not get as many likes, or be as pretty as something elaborately put together, but it’s simple food that fuels me. 
I eat the way I do because of how it makes me FEEL. Not how it (the meal) looks, or how it makes me look (I don’t currently have a six pack). My food has to fuel me through a day of motherhood, work, school, and life. If I’m feeling crappy because I ate something crappy, I can’t be present. Eat the food that makes you feel good. That fuels you. That keeps you present 
This plate:
•green leaf lettuce •turkey meatballs (both meatballs and half of sauce are from @eaturselfskinny sriracha meatballs) •@eatbanza pasta and a sweet potato sauce (I made it after the sriracha sauce for the meatballs was too hot  so I combined a sweet potato cashew sauce with the sriracha sauce and it worked 🤷‍️)

For those of you who've been following me for a while, you know food is incredibly meaningful to me - the connections and memories it can create. I’m excited to share this meaningful recipe (in the comments below) I created in partnership with @LuciniItalia! You also know that a lot of my love for food is tied to my Dad; he was (and still is) always making something new in the kitchen. One of the dishes I tie to my Dad is a spaghetti sauce with carrots (random right?!) It was his way of stretching a sauce, making it more filling, and adding a little more flavor. The entire time I was making this dish, I had this image of my Dad after a long day at work, standing in the kitchen, making this sauce. 
I wish I could say that I soaked up all his knowledge, and left home at 18 bursting with the know-how to make a killer dish. For whatever reason, I always picked helping with helped with the dishes instead, so most of my cooking ability is largely self-taught or taught over the phone with a call from my Dad. Here and there, I learned a few skills and recipes from other people in my life here and there, like how to cook steak from a high school friend that attended culinary school. I also had a roommate who taught me how to make killer tacos and eventually learned how to make a mighty fine spaghetti sauce from the wife of my boyfriend's best friend – it’s very similar to this organic, no sugar added @LuciniItalia Roasted Garlic Sauce. I love that when I make those dishes, I'm transported back to that moment with that person.

KALE PESTO PASTA

I love anytime I can make something healthy and gluten-free that doesn't taste like they meet those two qualifications 

Make this bowl:
-cook @eatbanza pasta to directions
-blister tomatoes over low-medium heat in @madeincookware non-stick pan (just cook for a few minutes turning frequently until the tomatoes get nice and plump)
-use your food processor or handy dandy @vitamix to make the pesto: -3 giant kale leaves, thick midsection/ stems removed
-2 giant handfuls herbs (I used cilantro, parsley, and basil)
-1/2 cup @chosenfoods avocado oil
-1/2 cup walnuts
-1 clove garlic
-juice + zest of one lemon

add a little extra protein: 1/3 of one chicken sausage chopped and sauteed

Sprinkle hemp seeds on at the end! 
That's it! Happy Sunday!

Quick and simple #tuesdaytoast. I need to whip up another batch of the walnut bread I made last week because I’ve tried several different kinds and the homemade is just my favorite. But I keep storebought GF bread in the freezer for when I’m in a pinch! 
One of the nicest things about a lot of places I went to eat at in CA is the entire menu was either GF or GF friendly. As someone who loves food and loves to share food with others, being diagnosed with Celiac disease almost feels like a loss, something to grieve. It means living life sort of on the sidelines a lot of times. Wheat isn’t something I can just not eat during the week but treat myself to when I go out with friends. Celiac disease means missing out on birthday cakes and special occasion foods. It’s always planning ahead or calling restaurants ahead to make sure a quick dinner doesn’t leave me sick. It’s sometimes not fully being able to participate in events. And while I am FULLY aware there are far worse diseases to have, it’s still sometimes a little lonely and disheartening. So the joy I felt being able to share an appetizer that includes bread (@cafegratitude has a gluten free French bread that will knock your socks off) was one of the highlights of my trip. Food is such a shared experience, and it was wonderful to be able to fully participate ️️

1 cup rolled oats
1 cup @bobsredmill almond flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp cinnamon 
2 tsp coconut palm sugar
1/4 tsp salt
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup @siggisdairy plain greek yogurt
1/4 cup honey
1 egg 
1/4 cup @traderjoeslist unsweetened almond milk
Juice from 1 lemon
Zest from 1 lemon
1 cup dried blueberries
- combine dry ingredients in large bowl, in separate bowl, combine wet ingredients then slowly add wet into dry until combined (try not to over mix) fold in blueberries then place in muffin tins
- Makes 12 muffins
- Bake @ 350 for 18-20 minutes or until tops are brown   #yestobobs

I saw a lunch posted recently by @restoring_radiance and thought, how have I forgotten about tuna?
The double-edged sword of being knee deep in ALL the foods is that sometimes you forget about favorites when you're busy trying something new. Some variation of this lunch was a staple in my diet when I was a busy new mom with a baby with MSPI (unable to tolerate any dairy or soy through breastmilk). Filling, flavorful, and really quick to whip up:
Tuna Bowl:
-1 packet or container wild caught tuna, I like @safecatchfoods, packed in water or olive oil
Mix this with: soy-free mayo OR cashew sour cream (what I used - had some leftover from another meal, I used the one from @ohsheglows) AND Dijon mustard. I usually have enough tuna to split between two lunches -romaine lettuce - however, after the recall of romaine, try using spinach or butter lettuce instead, chopped carrots, broccoli, radishes, and celery
-dressing: just drizzled balsalmic vinegar & avocado oil 
TO MEAL PREP: package washed lettuce and chopped veggies in one container, dressing in another, and quickly whip up tuna the morning of or when eating (tuna tastes fresh, IMO)

deets: sauté onions + chopped peppers in pan with @traderjoes avocado oil until carmelized. add in pre-roasted cubed sweet potatoes. Grab as much spinach that will fit in the pan the then top with two @vitalfarms eggs  cover your pan for about 10-15 minutes on low heat and it’s ready to eat!! I mixed in pepper + @traderjoesfood everything but the bagel seasoning!

My local @wholefoods moved locations (and got a major update) and I go there multiple times a week now! Outdoor patio, bar and even a brunch menu  my go-tos are the the freshly baked sourdough bread (for my bfast avocado toast), @rxbar, @sietefoods tortilla chips and of course the salad bar

FIND YOUR RANCH: Ranch gets a bad rap because it’s often made with less than stellar stuff. But it can be made at home, or bought with clean ingredients. There’s no reason to not use a quality dip, hummus, or dressing to make eating veggies easier. For me, hummus or @kitehillfoods chive almond cream cheese (thanks to @whythehealthnot_ for introducing me to it) makes eating cruciferous veggies (broccoli, Brussels sprouts, kale, etc) a little more enjoyable. And I want to eat more of these veggies in 2018, as they are disease fighting nutritional powerhouses! What are some of your favorite healthy “ranches” (hummus, dip, dressing, etc)? Happy Wednesday!

I first discovered Swiss chard a few summers ago, at our local farmers market. I had no idea what to do with it, but the woman i bought it from gave me perfect instructions on how to cook it (sautéed in butter with a little fresh garlic). I think of her every time I make Swiss chard! I was talking last night with a fellow food lover about how wonderful and important community is to food. For real changes to occur in our community’s health - via the way we eat, it’s going to take establishing relationships. From a brief conversation about how to cook a vegetable with a stranger, sharing food with neighbors, teaching outreach classes, growing gardens, etc. 
I’d love to hear more of your thoughts below on ways to integrate real food and health into our communities

This is like the perfect meal after an awesome morning workout  Healthy fats, protein, and carbs. And I love using my waffles as toast sometimes! 
Also, for any of you that follow @floliving’s food guide for balancing hormones, this meal fits the bill - with the greens, pork, buckwheat, and flax. 
Also another plus - this meal came together in less than 5 minutes thanks to prep! The waffle, homemade sausage, and roasted sweet potatoes were all reheated. Ps anyone ever notice how you can put SO much spinach in a pan and then it cooks down to this?! Haha! 
Hope everyone’s 2018 is off to a great start! .

Scrolling the pictures of these last days I found these beautiful bignes we had in @valtournenche. It was just after our mountain biking ride in a picnic area, across the road there was this amazing little Patisserie (Antico Forno Flamini) with the most delicious focaccia I had since our Puglia trip. They had so many spectacular desserts I didn't have the chance to taste. However, the taste of these little bignes were like heaven, I'm only dreaming to have them as breakfast now! Happy Sunday everyone!!!
