- Can help fight inflammation and reduce the risks of several diseases 
Oven Baked Salmon: - 1 tbs of olive oil or coconut oil- 5 oz of wild caught salmon - 1/2 tsp of pink Himalayan salt - 1/4 tsp black pepper
- Sliced lemon - Preheat oven to 450 •F , line baking dish with tinfoil, drizzle oil on top of salmon, sprinkle salt and pepper over the top, place lemons on top and bake for 12 to 15 minutes!

Blender juice! I like making 'juice' in the blender basically using smoothie ingredients and lots of water. This way you still get all the fibre, protein and healthy fat from your ingredients, but is it refreshing and thirst quenching like juice.

Today my 'juice' contains:
4 swiss chard leaves
1/2 lemon, peel and seeds removed
1/2 green apple
2 tsp hemp seeds
1/8 tsp spirulina
1 tsp collagen or plant based protein powder
1 tbsp olive oil
2.5 - 3 cups water

Hemp has so many beneficial properties!  Recently been adding hemp seeds to my protein shake instead of avocado.  Hemp seeds have 10g P, 14g F, 2g C.  Also its packed with magnesium and phosphorus.  Avocados have (per serving) 1g P, 8g F, ~1g C.  Eating keto makes me look at protein, fat and net carbs... so for my keto macros, hemp seeds will be more nutritious and help with my macro goals. @fitcardcan @joannenwharton I made it :) It's very simple and delicious. You can make ceviche with almost any seafood. The seafood starts out raw and the citrus is actually what cooks it. The marinade is heavy lime, garlic, cilantro, and any spicy peppers. To make it more authentic, use peppers that are common in South American food. If you can't find them, jalapenos or chiles will do.

Wild caught canned fish goes beyond  tuna! Other affordable and healthy options include salmon, sardines, and mackerel. They all contain lots of Omega 3s, with mackerel having the highest levels! Costco has the best prices that I have seen. When on sale, a six pack of sardines is only $7. You can use any of these varieties of fish in place of tuna in recipes. I like to make fish cakes or just put the whole can on top of a salad!

Mercury Poisoning and Fish Consumption

I know I’m not alone when I say tuna is one of my favorite foods.. (not just Ahi, you know what I mean) forever the government recommendations have been to limit consumption of fish higher on the food chain as they contain a significant amount of mercury... so should you avoid eating these fish frequently?
.
Well.. as with nearly everything nutrition related, government recommendations are very out of context and outdated. There’s a much larger picture we need to look at. Mercury alone can be toxic to the body. Mercury is biochemically defined as a “highly specific, irreversible selenoenzyme inhibitor” meaning it binds and deprives the body of selenium causing toxicity issues.
.
What REALLY matters is not mercury consumption, but the net effect of mercury/selenium exposure. The study that caused the initial concerns was of populations consuming Pilot whale which as you can see in the second picture is extremely high in mercury and void of selenium which led to mercury toxicity.
.
As you can also see, nearly all ocean fish have a very favorable selenium:mercury ratio other than sword fish, pilot whale, and shark (freshwater fish are much more variable dependent on the area they are found). If more selenium is consumed than mercury, the mercury levels are not of issue although should be more concerning for pregnant/nursing women and young children.
.
There are also other rich sources of selenium including multi vitamin supplementation, Brazil nuts, beef, pork, chicken, tofu, pasta, shellfish, and mushrooms.
.
And we can’t forget about these seafoods being one of the best sources of omega-3 DHA/EPA in the diet! So know that the government recommendations of limiting these foods is extremely outdated and out of context. I mean look at Asian cultures who live off of these fish.. you never see issues of mercury poisoning.
.
The consumption of mercury is not the issue but rather the net effect of your mercury to selenium consumption. Ocean fish are extremely nutrient dense so don’t miss out. I always opt for wild caught over farm raised so go out and enjoy eating your tuna.. you know I do

Chia pudding! It’s a new favourite in this house. I’d eaten it before but never made it (so easy!) and while trying to come up with easy dairy free options for Mr F thought I’d give it a go. I’ve been using oat milk and adding cacao, banana or pear and it is a hit. I like it too...Chia seeds are a great plant source of omega 3s, as well as fibre and calcium. Hooray!

Salmon and roasted veggies is one of my staples. It’s not only easy but it’s packed with omegas, various vitamins and minerals. I’m all about a quick and easy pan recipe on long days when I’m too tired to whip up a complicated meal. The snow peas added a nice crunch that we haven’t had in awhile! Family approved! .

Wild salmon filets
2 cups snow peas 
2 cups mushrooms 
1.5 cups sweet potatoes, chopped 
3 tbsp Olive oil, separated
Salt 
Pepper 
Juice from one lemon .

Preheat oven to 375, place prepared veggies on baking sheet, drizzle with 1-2 tbsp olive oil, salt and pepper. Roast 30 minutes, flipping over 1-2x. While the veggies are roasting, place salmon filets on baking sheet / pan and drizzle with remaining olive oil, salt, pepper and lemon juice. Bake with veggies for 12-15 minutes. .

Salmon Sunday!! Sundays are great for relaxing and having a nice rest day. I am pretty tired today so I'm happy I get to let my body rest and hang out with my awesome husband :) We got to sleep in, have brunch, and watched a movie. It's been a lo lovely day so far! On my rest days I still make sure I eat enough good nutrients like lots of veggies and healthy fats and protien. This Paleo Sushi bowl is full of nutrient dense foods :) the deets are  cauli-rice, roasted carrots, cucumber, watermelon radish, avocado 🥑, seaweed snax (which is a good way to support the thyroid), organic greens and some wild caught sockeye salmon drizzled with coconut aminos  you gotta keep nourishing the body in between workouts!
