I invite you to join a new epic tour in South Greenland! Follow link in bio for details.
I've travelled in many remote areas of Greenland for last 5 years of exploring Land of Ice. But my most favourite region in Greenland is still the South! Why? There are several reasons:
I've encountered the most beautiful northern lights here
Climbers call these places Big Walls because of stunning granite mountains like in Patagonia
These places accessible only by boat - so they are super remote and unique
Most charming villages of the South where locals barely seen any tourists
Icebergs, glaciers, fjords, lakes and waterfalls - everything we like so much in landscape photography!
Next year I am chartering a beautiful schooner for my expeditions to South Greenland. It will be a comfortable moving home for our 10 days in Greenland, where we can charge batteries, have a shower, warm up and have a nice meal from our chef. But not only a home - a beautiful model for our photos against mountains, icebergs and glaciers!

Is anyone else just sick and tired of all the BS and fake behavior on Instagram? I don’t get it. How is it mentally good for anyone to see and consume that stuff OR try and emulate it? No wonder everyone is full of bitterness, stress and anxiety, me included ‍️ I notice the more time I spend exploring on Instagram, the worse it can be for me if I’m not mentally strong “UGH Liz why aren’t your legs longer and why don’t you have a thigh gap and why didn’t you get a better shot at this place?” Oh that’s right, you are short and love burgers and are anxious AF 🤔 remember, comparison is the thief of joy. Stop comparing yourself to people on the internet, we’re all stars and doing our best So next time you’re scrolling through social media and feel those dark thoughts start creeping in, please remember you aren’t alone; we’re all in this together. And I don’t know about you guys, but I’m dying to see more heart on Instagram, I’m CRAVING some damn good stories and authentic pages to follow. Do you guys have any recommendations of creative people who fit the ticket? Who are you really enjoying following on Instagram right now? Tag em and I’ll start resharing @thetravelbootcamp #thetravelbootcamp #moreburgerslessproblems

@felixinden So good

@adingattamimi 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Superb

It’s complicated. As much as we all want to “help” in a situation where we see human waste affecting wildlife, the best practice is always to make sure you are first and foremost Educated & secondly Experienced when handling wild animals. For example on the beautifully healthy Sea Lion populations of Tyuleny Island - Russia we saw hundreds of thousands of seals & sea birds living extremely content & happy. But of course a few poor souls were adorned with nets around their neck & flippers. It’s easy to ask (even rather aggressively at times) why I /you wouldn’t jump into action & free that animal from its net. And the truth is that a Stellar Sea lion is an extremely aggressive animal.. these are in no way the small seals you see people manhandling to remove nets from in videos. Males are upwards of 1,000 lbs + and would absolutely attack if you approached a harem (it’s mating group). An even more important consideration is that during birthing season when the pups are young the relationship between mom and pup is crucial. Aggravating seals during this period can force them to leave their pups onshore (they cannot swim when young) while they enter the ocean, chances are they will not find their pups again. The amount of dead, lost and trampled (by males) pups we saw was really soul crushing to see firsthand. I would venture to say that attempting to remove something like this during the wrong time of year & without proper skill can and will be way more devastating to their cycle of life than wearing this net.
I share this as not only a healthy reminder but also a word of advice to those wanting to make a difference. Be careful & educate yourself as best you can. I applaud anyone that wants to make a difference but most of what we see online comes with little to no context of the backstory, history or preparation involved.. which is always important so that you are fully prepared for how YOU can make a difference. .
PS- it smelled like  .

PSS - bombarding someone with messages of how they “should” have done something is a poor way to create positive change.

Our mission to sail the entire chain of the Lofoten islands last October, also known as the Lofoten Wall, was met with many challenges.. specifically poor weather during our multiple crossings that were anything but smooth. You might even call them Vomit inducing 🤮. Either way we finished our objective and like all good expeditions we suffered in the process of achieving our goal. This night in Trollfjord was the calmest of the trip. There was boundless gratitude this windless for safe harbors amongst storms. Something you really learn to appreciate whilst living on a boat.

What does it mean to be better? @HyundaiUSA came to me with that question early this year and asked if Iʼd be willing to share a series of ideas and initiatives around how Iʼm #DrivenByBetter in my own life (Ummm YES!!) while testing out their award-winning Kona over the next few months. #ad

Each month I will explore a different aspect or initiative on how I/we can be better, physically, mentally, and for our communities. For me, inside ‘betterʼ lives innovation, creativity, and a conscious habit of always striving to do one’s best. So in honor of physical challenges here is one that makes me better - highlining. It is by far the hardest thing I have ever learned to do and has taught me how essential it is to fall in love with the process of
lifelong learning, failing and trying again. In my everyday life Iʼve been really enjoying pushing myself to strengthen my upper body with weights and pull ups. I am currently the reigning champion at my household over all the boys for who can hang on the pull up bar longest woot woot🥳

I challenge each of you to make a physical goal for the month of September or challenge me to one :p Use the hashtag #DrivenByBetter in your stories or posts and Iʼll be featuring some of my favorites! :) -

@kayla_simmons Yesssss. I was just trying to come up with my goal for September, so thanks for the added challenge! 💪🏼 I should also say, I really love my Hyundai Kona ☺️🚙 #cutecargoingfar

@hyundaiusa @kayla_simmons We’re so happy to hear this 🥰 What color Kona do you have?

A Cherokee proverb tells us that inside every person there is fight going on between two wolves.

One is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. “Which wolf will win?” The one you feed.
-
What does this have to do with whale sharks? In my travels I see many of the same struggles all over our natural world. For example this spot. Economically, East Kalimantan is almost entirely dependent on natural resources such as oilfield exploration, coal mining and gold mining. We saw mines and swaths carved out of the forests, big ships piled high with black coal, and plastic bottles clinking against each other as they pile up on the incoming tide.

Yet a short boat ride away exists an absolute marvel of nature - whale sharks, crystal clear lakes, a turtle sanctuary, sublime cave diving, a rare lake full of stingless jellyfish, the list goes on. It felt like seeing two futures side by side. Two wolves. Which wolf will we feed?

We were able to meet with the Minister of the province and express how much we hope they continue to shift their focus to protecting nature. I promised him I would tell people to visit, so here I am keeping that promise :) While ecotourism is Not going to save the world, it does create tangible value out of preserving an invaluable resource. Managed correctly everyone wins.

Our future is shaped by what wolves we feed - both inside of us and out.

@thephysicsgirl Oh my gosh, those are breathtaking animals and photos!!

I’m the first person to tell you that my career as a professional instagrammer is NOT always rainbows and unicorns. ‍️🦄 Despite the fact that I built this career on my passions (travel, Instagram & photography), I definitely didn’t sign up for accounting, using spreadsheets and managing KPI’s. (That stands for Key Performance Indicators, a metric that clients use to gauge the success of a campaign.) So, let’s talk about money! So many creators are super quick to jump into travel and tourism work without expecting payment. They justify it by saying that travel is their passion, and the value of the trip is worth the work entailed. Usually they don’t realise that this career does involve a whole bunch of things that might not be your passion, like accounting and spreadsheets. 🤓 So when it comes to pricing yourself in the market, whether you have 1,000 followers or 100,000 followers, you do have to factor in the value of the work overall. Not just the awesome travel stuff. We talk openly about money and pricing at the @TheTravelBootcamp , including how much creators are charging and what we personally earn (through which income streams). Our second intake is now open, link in bio. #TheTravelBootcamp

As the world becomes more crowded and holiday spots become more popular, it’s getting harder and harder to find little corners of the world that haven’t been overrun with tourism and still manage to maintain their unique character. Would you believe me if I told you there are still places in Europe like this? The @heartofthedolomites defies all logic of being the most perfect string of authentic mountain villages without the chaos of touristy mountain towns. Little to no English is spoken here, siestas business hours are encouraged and the only other tourists your likely to find is Italians (and maybe a German every now and then). Pou reflect the relationship between the ancestors, environment, and the reputation or standing of the tangata whenua, and it’s so special Cardrona now has 5 pou reflecting their core values. These mountains formed over hundreds of millions of years as two tectonic plates collided and pushed the earth upward. Glaciers then continued to shape the rugged peaks and deep valleys. This process has created some of the most iconic landscapes in North America, like Jasper National Park, pictured here.
I also recently learned that Northern Canada is one of the few places on earth where something else extremely rare has formed. In the earth's mantle, deep beneath the surface, over billions of years and under an immense amount of pressure, the hardest natural material known to man is created—diamonds! Over time, these precious gems have been brought to the surface in magma from volcanic eruptions, forming Kimberlite pipes where diamonds are found.

Today, these diamonds are mined in sustainable ways that you might not expect: mining companies use efficient methods that recycle water, protect 3x the land used for mining, and pay workers on average 5x the living wage in their countries.

Now more than ever it’s important to understand where our resources come from and how we can help protect these places for future generations to come.

Just me and my favorite coconuts @georgiarickard and @laurenepbath 🥥 hanging out in Bali ️ together we run the @thetravelbootcamp - where we provide the tools, resources, understanding and hope to guide people to a more purposeful life running a business with two other women who are equally as stubborn and independent as I am has not been easy but it’s been so incredibly rewarding. I thank my lucky stars every day that I have these two heroes by my side. We are all polar opposites but are perfectly united in our beliefs about creativity and building the life of our dreams, something we have to remind ourselves of constantly as we argue from what to order from Uber Eats to where we shape and grow our company. I’ve worked for myself for so long and I’m fiercely solitary and independent, but learning to work in a team has been one of the richest experiences of my life! Expectations vs Reality.
With countless waterfalls, peaks, animals, wildflowers, vistas, etc this place can feel like a dream!

But it can also feel like Disneyland with most parking lots filling up by 9 am, traffic on the roads and trails, long lines for the bathroom, extremely hard to get campsites and backcountry permits, etc.

This is the reality of a lot of National Parks and beautiful places around the world these days, just plan ahead and have realistic expectations!

Happy World Elephant Day I've been lucky enough to spend time with elephants on safaris around Africa and Asia over the past decade, and seeing these incredible creatures in the wild is a profound and incredible experience. Observing them interact in their families and even watching their eyes as they see us, you can see their souls, feel their intelligence, and can't help but want to do everything you can to protect them

So please, if you are traveling in a place where there are any kind of elephant activities, from rescue sanctuaries where you get to play with them to even riding them, please don't. The process of breaking an elephant to be controlled by a human is gut-wrenchingly horrible

And a massive thank you to incredible groups like @intrepidtravel for taking a stance by banning elephant rides on their adventures years ago and inspiring tourism to change and be more ethically minded with wildlife experiences. #bekind #stopelephantrides #worldelephantday

Today is World Elephant Day, and an opportunity for me to join the conversation about elephant riding with @IntrepidTravel . Not a lot of people know this, but Intrepid were the first global travel company to ban elephant rides, back in 2014. I learned this, and more, when I worked with Intrepid in India in 2015. And I’ve obviously educated myself well when it comes to understanding the use of elephants in tourism. I’ve spent time with elephant researchers in South East Asia, and learned a lot about elephant poaching and human/ wildlife conflict in Southern Africa. Elephants have become a sort of passion project for me. For this reason I’m really happy to be sharing some of my thoughts with you today. So that I can play a part in spreading a wave of information on the cruelty of elephant riding. Please see my Instagram Story for more context and information, including my own history of riding. We can only change with love and kindness. Have compassion for those that have ridden without knowing better, have patience to teach others, arm yourself with knowledge and put your money where your mouth is! Me, pondering if I will ever feel motivated to post on Instagram again. For me captions have always been the thing that give me the most pause. Like I don’t know what anyone else’s process looks like but mine is this slow crawl circle kind of thing haha. Sometimes it makes magic. Sometimes I stare at the wall.

Usually I share when I’m excited about something - a place or a moment that amazed me. Right now, conversely enough, I haven’t been sharing on here because there are SO MANY things I’m excited about on the horizon that I’ve been giving myself to loving the present moment, to the amazing community of humans next to me, and to not diverting my energy into touching my phone too much :)

Anyway Happy Friday humans!! I would love to know something you’re excited about right now if you’d like to share. Or don’t. (It always feels like click baity 🤷‍️ asking you all to comment but honestly I love having a peek into your joy.. no pressure ) I’m personally excited about all the new recipes I’ve been learning. Sounds kinda dorky but yea. I’ve always been pretty into dorky so I’m down🤓 photo by @cobiandewey #wonderfulindonesia #rajaampat #wonderfulrecipes?

@craighowes Don’t jump !!!!

@bestvacations What a place!!! 😍😍😍

On the last night of this trip we all talked about what our favorite moment was, and mine was when one of the girls from the trip told me that she felt empowered to backpack independently after this experience - that it had built up her confidence. This waterfall was at the very end of our 6-day trek, and is only fitting that it’s Iceland’s biggest and most powerful waterfalls. #BMTMAdventures join us in Patagonia in March. Link in bio!
